The Miami Ohio RedHawks have played organized football since their inaugural season in 1888.

In the 136 years since, 38 different men have been the head coach of the squad.

However, after Miami pulled to 4-4 on the season this weekend with a 46-7 home win against the Central Michigan Chippewas, it officially made head coach Chuck Martin the winningest coach in school history.

Sunday, Miami Ohio honored the 11th-year head coach with a video tribute.

The win on Saturday marked Martin’s 60th as coach of the Miami Ohio Redhawks, putting him past Randy Walker’s 59. Walker coached the team from 1990-98, when he left for Northwestern, where he remained until his 2006 passing.

Martin was hired as Miami Ohio’s coach before the 2014 season after he spent three seasons as a Notre Dame Fighting Irish assistant, including serving as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2012 and 2013. Before Notre Dame, he went 74-7 in six seasons as head coach of Grand Valley State.

Martin has taken the Redhawks to five bowl games in his 11 seasons as head coach and is 60-66. He has won the MAC twice, in 2019 and 2023.

Miami now enters its bye week and will return to action on Tuesday, November 5, against the Ball State Cardinals.
