The No. 20 SMU Mustangs (7-1, 4-0 ACC) could take a significant step along the road to the ACC Championship on Saturday when they host the No. 18 Pittsburgh Panthers (7-0, 3-0 ACC) in Dallas.
As is the case at this point in the season, injuries threatened to impact both Pitt and SMU at the quarterback position.
Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein suffered an injury late in the team’s 41-13 win over Syracuse last week, but head coach Pat Narduzzi announced on his radio show that Holstein is cleared and will start for the Panthers.
SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings was also listed as questionable throughout the week with an undisclosed injury. On Friday, SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee put fans’ fears to bed, telling ESPN that Jennings has been cleared and will start the primetime showdown for the Mustangs.

“SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings has been cleared medically for the Top 20 clash with Pittsburgh this weekend and will start for the Mustangs on Saturday night, coach Rhett Lashlee told ESPN. He’d been questionable with an undisclosed injury,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel said Friday morning on X.
Jennings has been great for SMU this season. He’s 5-0 in games he’s started after replacing Preston Stone, who started the team’s first three games.
In his five games, Jennings has gone 110-for-171 for 1,594 passing yards and ten touchdowns to five interceptions. He’s also rushed for 321 yards and three touchdowns, including a career-high 113 rushing yards in SMU’s 34-27 road win against the Louisville Cardinals on October 5.
SMU and Pitt will play on November 2 at 7 p.m. CT and air on the ACC Network.
