One year ago, the Florida State Seminoles were in the midst of an undefeated season with their sights set on a potential College Football Playoff appearance.

Florida State is 1-8 on the season entering this week, with its lone win coming in a 14-9 rock fight against the California Golden Bears.

Everything that could go wrong for the squad has gone wrong this season, with senior quarterback DJ Uiagalelei struggling before suffering a season-ending injury. Making things worse, head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles have lost multiple 2025 commits throughout the course of the season.

Speaking to the media Monday in advance of FSU’s upcoming game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Norvell admitted that this season’s collapse took him by surprise.

“I am shocked in where we are and … it was not expected. You look at some of the results that we faced, you look at some of the circumstances that have shown up … you go into a season and you have a picture in your mind of what things are going to look like. I’m not blind to, like I said, I’m optimistic, but also know challenges,” Norvell said.

At 1-8, it’s hard to envision any positives to look ahead to for FSU. Perhaps a road upset over Notre Dame could lead to something to build upon.
