The 2024 season has been one to forget for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
After going 3-0 to start their season, Big 12 play has punished the Cowboys. Mike Gundy’s bunch has lost six in a row to move to a 3-6 record. They are the Big 12’s lone winless team this season.
Barring a miraculous turnaround over the season’s final three games, the Cowboys look poised to miss a bowl game for just the second time in head coach Mike Gundy’s 20 seasons at the helm.
Gundy, who has never been one to hide his emotions, went on a rant against critics of the coach and program during Monday’s media availability.
MIKE GUNDY GOES ON A RANT DURING HIS WEEKLY PRESS CONFERENCE:
“In most cases the people who are negative and voicing their opinions are the same ones that can’t pay their own bills. They’re not taking care of themselves. They’re not taking care of their own family.” pic.twitter.com/t2w3FNpsQr

“Unfortunately in life, most people are weak. As soon as things start to go not as good as what they thought, they fall apart and they panic. They want to point the finger and blame other people. You see it happen in everyday life. People do it all the time. That’s why I refuse to watch the TV and the news, because I get tired of people complaining and b******* and this and that, versus just doing something about it and trying to make it better,” Gundy began.
The head coach wasn’t done, though, as he blasted the critics within Oklahoma State’s fanbase.
“In most cases the people who are negative and voicing their opinions are the same ones that can’t pay their own bills. They’re not taking care of themselves. They’re not taking care of their own family. But they have an obligation to speak out and complain about others because it makes them feel better. Then when they go to bed at night, they’re the same failure they were before they said anything negative about anyone else,” he continued.
Gundy said there’s a lesson to be learned that he tries to teach his team.
“The most important thing you can do in life is make sure you’re maximizing your opportunity to be the best person and be as successful as you can in whatever trade you choose to do. In some cases we might fall short, fifty percent of people do on a Saturday. That doesn’t make you a failure. What makes you a failure is if you have a bad attitude about it. And are unwilling to try to improve,” Gundy concluded.
In the preseason media poll, Oklahoma State was picked to finish third in the Big 12. They received 14 first-place votes.
