A Group of 5 coach called out the Alabama Crimson Tide this week for alleged improper recruiting. The Miami (OH) RedHawks loudly accused the Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer on Thursday morning.

RedHawks head coach Chuck Martin had choice words for Alabama and its head coach regarding the recruitment of kicker Graham Nicholson. The 2023 Lou Groza Award recipient transferred to the Crimson Tide after his award-winning season in Miami last year.

Martin appeared to indicate that the RedHawks didn’t “lose” Nicholson so much as Alabama allegedly “stole him” from the team.

“We didn’t lose him, he’s at Alabama,” Martin said via Al.com. “We know exactly where he’s at. Again, you media people, it’s all pretend. Like, no, Alabama stole our kicker. They illegally recruited our kicker and stole him from us and that’s a fact. We act like it’s not. We live in this la-la world, like, ‘Hey, let’s not talk…’ I don’t know why. Everybody knows what’s going on.”

The RedHawks coach continued, saying, “So yeah, Alabama stole our kicker. A couple other schools tried to steal him but then… OK, what was the question?”

DeBoer later responded to the accusations. Nicholson won’t be leaving Tuscaloosa, and it’s probably not likely that Alabama will face punishment. However, it’s unlikely that DeBoer’s response will salt away the wounds in Ohio right now.
