Mark Ingram didn’t mince words while discussing the state of the Alabama Crimson Tide defense.
Ingram their “atrocious” performance against the Vanderbilt Commodores on this week’s episode of The Triple Option. The Crimson Tide turned in a performance that resulted in a stunning upset on Saturday that sent shockwaves through the sport.
After he discussed how he felt watching, he set his sights on the defense. Ingram, who played when the Crimson Tide defense played awfully mightily, sounded the alarms. He believes the defense is in “crisis mode” heading into next week.
“So now we’re getting to the bad,” Ingram said. “The loss is atrocious. We don’t lose to Vandy,” he continued.
“It’s just unacceptable. Everyone knows that. You have a huge win versus Georgia, then you go on the road to Vandy, off huge momentum, and you fall straight on your face like that? The defense is just completely unprepared for this,” he said. “They weren’t sound in their assignments.”
“We just couldn’t get off the field,” Ingram complained, noting the difference in time of possession.
“They had nine possessions, they only punted the ball twice. ‘Bama’s defense is in crisis mode right now. They’re in crisis mode,” Ingram emphatically said. Alabama is not playing well on defense, certainly not like their usual selves, but they’re in serious need of shoring up if they want to contend this year.
