Auburn lost to the California Golden Bears on Saturday. The win catapulted optimism for the Golden Bears, who’ve been down on their luck for the past few years. Feelings weren’t the same for Auburn, as Tigers fans have grown frustrated. But unfortunately, some of those frustrations spiraled too far.
Quarterback Payton Thorne put in a mediocre performance against the Golden Bears. That said, Thorne felt an unnecessary wrath from some fans. It wasn’t the usual wrath either.
Thorne joined the Next Round Live podcast this week. There, Thorne revealed that he received direct messages requesting money back for bad gambling bets made on him. Seriously.
Auburn QB Payton Thorne says he has people 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗺𝗼 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 🤣

Thorne appeared to have a sense of humor about it. But this is nothing short of pervasive and psychotic behavior. While sports gambling laws have improved accessibility, this is one example of its many downsides.
Thorne is a fifth-year senior whose career began at Michigan State. He transferred to Auburn after three seasons in East Lansing. Thorne has 8,743 career passing yards, 70 touchdowns, and 38 interceptions. His career-high in touchdowns came in 2021 when he threw 27 for the Spartans.
Auburn is back on the field this weekend as the Tigers host the New Mexico Lobos.
