One month after he announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal, a former Southeastern Conference football player has found a new home. Bangally Kamara, formerly of South Carolina, entered the portal and has now landed at Kansas.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news on the first significant transfer portal move of the 2024 college football season.

“Transfer linebacker Bangally Kamara tells ESPN that he’s verbally committed to Kansas, making him the first known transfer commit of the 2024-25 portal cycle,” Thamel wrote on X.

Kamara is a senior linebacker originally from Akron, Ohio. He began his career at Pitt, where he played for three seasons. He then went into the portal and landed in South Carolina, where he spent the early part of this season. But after making only few appearances with the Gamecocks, he decided to redshirt and enter the portal. He’s now found his new home out in the Big 12.

He has 67 career tackles, eight passes defended, 4.0 sacks, and one interception in his college football career.

Kansas will be happy to bring on the veteran linebacker through the transfer portal. The Jayhawks haven’t had a strong year after a promising 2023 season. They’re 2-6 on the year and likely won’t be going bowling again. But perhaps next year, with a player like Kamara around, they can turn it around.

The college football world reacted to the transfer portal move.
