The Miami Hurricanes enter the 2024 college football season, looking to prove a point.

Returns have been underwhelming after poaching head coach Mario Cristobal from the Oregon Ducks two seasons ago. The ‘Canes are 12-13 in Cristobal’s two years at the helm, with last year’s disappointing 7-6 finish featuring a baffling loss after failing to kneel down in the final minute against Georgia Tech, leading to a fumble and game-winning score for the Yellow Jackets, and also a Pinstripe Bowl loss to Rutgers.

While Cristobal likely isn’t on the hot seat entering the season, another lackluster result could increase the pressure. However, Cristobal should be aided by the fact that former Washington State Cougars star quarterback Cam Ward transferred to Miami in the offseason and will be under center for the Hurricanes.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Ward explained that he’s aware of the pressure of playing at Miami and has much to prove.”I have a lot to prove to myself, and I have a lot to prove to my teammates. The only thing that matters to me is my teammates and myself. So we’re gonna rise to the occasion, we’re gonna be prepared to play,” Ward said during Wednesday’s media availability via On3.

Ward spent two years at Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State, so this will be his fifth college football season. He threw for nearly 7,000 yards and 48 touchdown passes in his two seasons with the Cougars.
