Dabo Swinney Clemson football Head Coach Dabo Swinney speaks during a press conference at the Smart Family Media Center in Clemson, S.C. Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Clemson plays University of Georgia at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia Saturday, August 31 at noon.

The Clemson Tigers got off on the wrong foot last Saturday. The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs took the Tigers to the cleaners in an impressive showing down in Atlanta.

Clemson felt the heat after the loss, as the Tigers were criticized from many areas. Head coach Dabo Swinney took on the brunt of that wrath. This week, Swinney was reflective and honest in assessing how the team played. He also showed similar reflection in how the coaching staff handled certain situations during the game.

Dabo specifically drew from the lack of touches that wide receiver Tyler Brown got during the game.

“We flunked in getting some guys the ball like we needed to,” Swinney said via On3. “We didn’t get Tyler Brown the ball until the fourth quarter. That’s an F on us.”

Swinney compared not giving him touches to not giving Phil Mafah, their star running back, touches until the fourth quarter. Swinney suggested that it doesn’t make any sense, so we’ll now see if that’s corrected. It could have been a classic case of overthinking. Sometimes, giving your best players the ball in space is best. And just let them do what they do best.

Clemson will host Appalachian State this weekend to get back on track. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. Eastern down in Death Valley.
