This marks one of the first times a game has been canceled due to a virus outbreak since the COVID-shortened season in 2020. It being whooping ough is a bit alarming on a few levels for an already alarming situation.
The program did note, according to ESPN, that no active players in the program are seriously ill right now.
This situation could turn into a bigger deal if it persists. Portland State wil play Boise State next week, or at least is scheduled to at this juncture. Boise State released a statement that they were monitoring the situation ahead of the scheduled Week 4 meeting between the two football programs.
