When the top-ranked Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners square off this weekend in the latest iteration of the iconic Red River Rivalry, the Sooners will be shorthanded on offense.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Thursday morning that Sooners leading wide receiver Deion Burks would likely miss Saturday’s game with a soft tissue injury.
Burks had been listed as questionable on the Oklahoma injury report this week.
Sources: Oklahoma leading wide receiver Deion Burks is not expected to play against No. 1 Texas this weekend. Burks tops No. 18 OU in receptions (26) and yards (201). He’d been listed as questionable. pic.twitter.com/jMy3ge8igu

As Thamel notes, Burks is Oklahoma’s leader in receptions and receiving yards. The Purdue Boilermakers transfer had three touchdown receptions in Oklahoma’s season-opening win over Temple.
Burks is just the latest in a long line of wide receiver injuries for the Sooners, as Thamel adds that five OU wideouts will miss the Red River Rivalry.
This means Oklahoma will play without the program’s five best wide receivers with Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq, Andrel Anthony and Jayden Gibson all listed as out on SEC injury report.

The Sooners are expected to lean on the running game and wide receiver JJ Hester, who had three catches for 86 yards in Oklahoma’s September 28 win against the Auburn Tigers.
