The Alabama Crimson Tide boasts one of the nation’s most talented teams this year. But will the Crimson Tide make it to the 12-team College Football Playoff? Conventional wisdom suggests they would, but Desmond Howard isn’t so bullish.

Howard joined Get Up on ESPN and discussed Alabama and their chances in 2024. The Crimson Tide underwent a significant change this offseason. The legendary Nick Saban retired from coaching and was replaced by Kalen DeBoer. Formerly at Washington, DeBoer has a great offensive mind, so far, recruiting hasn’t curtailed.

But Alabama still faces some tough tests this year. That may be why Howard said on the show that he thinks they won’t make the 12-team playoff.

“No. We had to make our selections last week in Dublin, and I have three teams from the SEC making it to the College Football Playoff. Alabama is not one,” Howard said via On3.

The SEC will have several teams vying to get into the CFP. The Crimson Tide, Georgia, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma are among them. That’s not even factoring in other potential surprises or contenders.

Alabama deserves some benefit from the doubt because until it stops working down there, you can always count on them to make it enjoyable. But it will be intriguing to see how things play out.
