The Florida State Seminoles are having the worst start to the season of virtually any team in the country.
First, the team lost a week zero showdown to ACC foe the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the buzzer, with the Yellow Jackets hitting a field goal to escape with the 24-21 win.
Monday’s home opener against the Boston College Eagles was considered a chance for Florida State to get back on track, but the Eagles stormed into Tallahassee and came away with a 28-13 victory, sending the ‘Noles to 0-2 and seriously jeopardizing their chances at an ACC Championship or College Football Playoff appearance.
Speaking to the media after Monday’s loss, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell blamed himself for the team’s poor performance.
“I’m sick to how this season started. Tonight, I failed in preparing the team to go out and respond,” Norvell said via ESPN.
The comments echo similar comments by Norvell after the Georgia Tech loss, which he called ‘sickening’, blamed himself, and said he should have had the team better prepared.
While there’s plenty of blame for the disastrous start to FSU’s season, Oregon State Beavers transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei’s struggles certainly haven’t helped. In the two losses, the quarterback has combined to go 40-for-69 for 465 yards and just one touchdown and interception. While that’s likely emblematic of a bigger offensive issue for Flordia State, Uiagalelei needs to play better.
