The Florida State Seminoles are 1-9 this season after a 52-3 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday.
On Sunday, embattled FSU head coach Mike Norvell announced that offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans had all been dismissed from the staff.
The Seminoles have been in a freefall for most of the season, since starting the year with back-to-back losses against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Boston College Eagles to be 0-2 in both ACC play and overall after two games. Things never got better for the Seminoles and now with two games left, Norvell decided to make a change, likely in an effort to pull out a couple of wins to end the year and hopefully keep his job for next year.
It’s unclear who will replace Atkins or Dugans, but Fuller will be replaced by former Miami Hurricanes head coach Randy Shannon, who has been FSU’s co-defensive coordinator since 2022.
Social media had a lot to say about the news.
Firing good people is the worst. I would bet Norvell has been feeling crushed by both the team’s failures and also knowing this day would come. That’s a ton of stress.
It’s only the beginning of changes I’m sure, but it could actually give him a little chance to breathe now.

The new DC will replace Randy. Pulling the plug on Fuller is the harder decision and gives more time to open up the more important job search.
