The eyes of the college football world will be affixed on Austin, Texas, this Saturday when the top-ranked Texas Longhorns host the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs for their first meeting as members of the SEC.
Texas is one of three undefeated team in conference play, so a victory would put them on the fast track to the SEC Championship in Atlanta.
A loss would mark Georgia’s second of SEC play and almost certainly take them out of the conference championship hunt. It would also reduce their margin for error, making the College Football Playoff razor thin.
If Georgia wants to pull off the victory, they will once again have to do it without second-team All-SEC linebacker Smael Mondon, as he continues to recover from a foot injury he re-aggravated in September.
Matt Zenitz of 247Sports had the news first.
Georgia is expected to be without All-SEC linebacker Smael Mondon again when it faces No. 1 Texas Saturday, sources tell @247Sports/@CBSSports.
Still unclear when Mondon, who has missed the last two games, will be back as he works back from a foot issue.https://t.co/Qykr9YhTNZ pic.twitter.com/1tkVYCgWil

It’s unclear when Mondon will return to the lineup but he was seen in a walking boot in Georgia’s win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Zenitz notes.
Mondon has 17 tackles this season, but finished second on the Bulldogs in 2023 with 68 tackles including three sacks. He’s made 171 total tackles across his four seasons with Georgia.
