The Georgia Bulldogs have suspended wide receiver Colbie Young following a recent arrest.
According to head coach Kirby Smart, Young’s suspension is indefinite. Smart confirmed the news of the suspension on Wednesday’s Southeastern Conference Coaches Teleconference.
I got to speak to him this morning. He’s been suspended indefinitely until this legal matter has resolved,” Smart said via CBSSports.com. “We can’t really comment any further on the specifics of it but had a good meeting with him this morning.”
Smart continued, saying, “We’re committed to continuing to educate our players and do the best job we can of making sure they understand the serious nature of these incidents. It’s very unfortunate, but we want to be responsible in decision-making on and off the field. This is obviously a really tough situation, but he’s suspended indefinitely until the legal matter is resolved.”
Police arrested Young on Tuesday morning, according to CBSSports.com. The Bulldogs wide receiver was then booked on two misdemeanor charges for battery as well as assault on an unborn child.
“Young was booked by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department at 4:18 a.m. ET. He was later released on a $2,500 bond for the assault charge,” CBS Sports’ Will Backus wrote.
