Tennessee Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Volunteers are out to a fast start this season. Fox’s Joel Klatt admits that you can’t take that away from them right now.

Armed with quarterback Nico Iamaleava and an explosive offense, the Volunteers have looked great this season. Iamaleava and the Vols won big over Chattanooga and then defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack this past weekend. Iamaleava, a celebrated freshman quarterback, threw five touchdowns against the Wolfpack in the win.

Klatt is bullish so far on Tennessee and what they’ve done this year.

“They are now more along the lines of the 2022 version of Tennessee,” Klatt said of the Vols. “Which means that this team is, at least I think right now, one of the better teams in the SEC.” Klatt felt it was wait-and-see with Iamaleava, but because of his “electric” play, he’s willing to concede on that.

The Fox analyst was a bit shy on going all the way though, and said that we’ll know how good the Volunteers will be ahead of their game against Oklahoma in Norman.

“We’re gonna see if Tennessee is as good as I think they are right now on September 21st against OU,” Klatt said. He added that, if they win that game, then a potential College Football Playoff appearance is on deck.

We’ll see if the Volunteers can get to that level.
