Oregon Oregon fans cheer during the game against Ohio State at Autzen Stadium Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024.

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook made waves earlier this season after announcing he’d hit the transfer portal. Based on some of his social media activity lately, you might want to wonder about whether he’s going to Oregon.

The Ducks had previously recruited Cook, a freshman wide receiver from DeSoto, Texas, before he went to Austin. But the 19-year-old wide receiver might still have the Ducks on his mind.

DucksWire noted intriguing activity out of his Instagram account that certainly caused a stir.

“Before committing to Texas, Cook took one of his official visits to Eugene and strongly considered a commitment to the Ducks. Now, amid rumors that Oregon will pursue him once it is allowed, Cook changed one of his social media profiles that is turning heads for Duck fans.

“On Sunday, Cook changed his Instagram profile picture to a picture of himself in Oregon gear, taken during his official visit in 2022,” they wrote.

Oregon has been red-hot on the recruiting trail. The Ducks own one of the best recruiting classes in 2025 and are building a top class in 2026. Adding Cook to the roster might only further their talent and send their ceiling even further.

Oregon currently ranks No. 1 in the nation at 10-0 on the season. It’s the Ducks’ first 10-0 start since 2012, when they ended the year 12-1 with a Fiesta Bowl win over Kansas State. The Ducks can become the first Oregon team to go 11-0 since the 2010 season this weekend. Oregon faces familiar foe Wisconsin, who they’ve met in two memorable Rose Bowls this century.
