Josh Heupel will return to Norman this weekend as his Tennessee Volunteers play the Oklahoma Sooners in their Southeastern Conference opener.

Heupel is a former accomplished quarterback at the University of Oklahoma. He led the Sooners to a BCS National Championship while he manned the team under Hall of Fame head coach Bob Stoops.

Obviously, that storyline will be discussed at length ahead of OU-Tennessee. The SEC slugfest is poised to be a terrific game. Ahead of the matchup, Heupel discussed a story that current Sooners head coach Brent Venables told. Venables served as defenseive coordinator for several years under Stoops, particularly while Heupel played. He was there for his recruitment, and Venables referred to the Tennessee head coach as ‘pasty’ back then.

Heupel got honest and made an admission about that story.

“I probably was a little pasty. I was hiding in hibernation in the early part of my life,” Heupel admitted to reporters via On3.

Obviously, this a hilarious admission and nothing bad. Heupel had a great time at Oklahoma and that time is over, of course. The Volunteers have high expectations and hope to meet them with Heupel aboard. They came awfully close two years ago, but fell short. With an expanded SEC, the road will be tougher, but they have the talent to break through. Especially at quarterback, with the sensational Nico Iamaleava.
