Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels rolled through nonconference play and are out to a 4-0 start to the 2024 season.
The strong start to the season has had Ole Miss no lower than No. 6 in the AP Poll, their highest mark since the 2015 season. Quarterback Jaxson Dart leads the nation in passing yards with 1,554 and is tied for fourth in the country with 12 passing touchdowns.
Earlier this week, former Ole Miss head coach and current Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze took what many perceived to be a shot at Ole Miss and its NIL collective, one of the nation’s most well-funded.
“I think in the new world, that’s become harder and harder to do and you’re constantly searching ways with this new way of transferring and NIL to figure out exactly how to do it. I think there’s some who are doing it well, if you look at like Ole Miss and Missouri, I think they’ve done some really good things it looks like and trying to use NIL to their advantage and they’ve been able to maintain a winning edge,” Freeze said during this week’s SEC coaches teleconference according to On3.
While it initially seems like a compliment, Kiffin didn’t take it as one.
“That is nice of Coach Freeze to compliment our management of our collective. I’m sure he’ll try to steal Walker Jones like he’s tried all of our coaches also,” Kiffin said.
Jones oversees The Grove Collective and has been doing so since 2022.
Unfortunately, Auburn and Ole Miss are not scheduled to play this season. They could meet in the SEC Championship, but it’s highly unlikely. The Tigers are already 0-1 in conference play, with games against Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia, and Alabama still to come.
Ole Miss opens SEC play this weekend against Kentucky.
