Earlier this week, longtime USC Trojans and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced that he would return to USC in the spring to teach a class.

While Carroll wasn’t able to disclose what the class would cover, as it’s not yet official, the announcement brought a mix of shock and excitement.

On Wednesday, USC head coach Lincoln Riley was asked about the news, and said he’d love to have the legendary head coach at practice.

“I’d love to have him. He’s great. Coach has been great to me. We’ve had a chance to catch up pretty often, check in with each other. He’s been a great resource and a great person to be able to pick his brain. He’s been very good to me. I’m excited he’s going to be here more, and we’d be crazy not to take advantage of having him around. Whether it’s an official role or not, he’s made it very clear that we’ve got a good open line of communication,” Riley told reporters via ESPN.

Carroll coached the Trojans from 2001 to 2009, going 97-19 and winning a national championship, in addition to four Rose Bowls.

An intriguing possibility with Carroll back in the ranks at USC is that if Riley accepts another job and cannot coach the bowl game, USC could ask Carroll to step in as the Oklahoma Sooners did with Bob Stoops when Riley took the USC job.
