A former Louisiana State football player has filed a lawsuit against the school. Greg Brooks Jr., a former LSU cornerback, sued the school and its medical center for negligence.
A Yahoo! Sports report from Ross Dellenger on Friday detailed the situation. Brooks learned he was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year and had to pause his football career as a result.
The argument for Brooks, as Dellenger explained, is that he’s “accusing coaches of inaction and athletic trainers of misdiagnosis as well as levying claims against the surgeon who operated on him.”
The report continued, noting that Brooks, a year after the surgery, still cannot walk, as part of a 13-page lawsuit, said Yahoo!
“In the most serious accusations, Brooks alleges that he was left with ‘catastrophic neurological injuries’ and is ‘permanently disabled’ from the brain surgery performed by Brandon Gaynor, a surgeon at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. During the surgery, Brooks says he suffered ‘multiple strokes’ from ‘acts of malpractice.’ Those alleged acts are being addressed in a medical review of malpractice claims the family has filed,” the report said.
The report says several high-ranking officials, including head coach Brian Kelly, are also named in the filing.
The shocking news of the lawsuit is tough to read in some parts. Brooks Jr. and his family appear ready to pursue this case and receive the justice they need.
