The LSU Tigers have become the latest SEC school to receive a fine from the conference.
Following the Tigers’ 29-26 upset win over the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels, the LSU student section poured onto the field in excitement, as is often the case after big wins in college sports.
Unfortunately for Tigers fans, it’s a violation of SEC rules, and it’s not LSU’s first offense.
On Sunday, SEC leadership announced a $250,000 fine for LSU’s second violation of the access to competition area policy. A third violation, along with all ensuing violations after, will cost the university $500,000.
LSU’s fine will be paid to Ole Miss, per conference policy.
The policy states that “institutions shall limit access to competition areas to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly credentialed or authorized individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest may spectators enter the competition area.” It was originally implemented in 2004 before being amended in 2015 and 2023.
This is the second consecutive week that the SEC has issued fines. The Vanderbilt Commodores were fined after their 40-35 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide last week, along with the Arkansas Razorbacks garnering a fine for field storming after their 19-14 upset win over the Tennessee Volunteers.
LSU will travel to Arkansas nezt week as they look to continue their winning ways.
