The college football world will soon be taken up by the transfer portal. On Monday, we got an early sign of things to come.
Maryland Terrapins quarterback Cameron Edge will enter the transfer portal. 247Sports’ Matt Zeniz reported the move for the third-year quarterback on Monday afternoon.
“Maryland QB Cameron Edge plans to enter the transfer portal,” Zenitz wrote.
Maryland QB Cameron Edge plans to enter the transfer portal, a source tells @cbssports/@247sports.

Edge hasn’t gotten too much playing time since he arrived to College Park. In two seasons, he’s played in four career games and has gone 11 for 17 with 167 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He hasn’t appeared in a Terps game since the team’s win over Villanova on September 21. He also starred in their win over UConn, where he threw a touchdown in the team’s season opener.
As Zenitz wrote, he played well during the Music City Bowl against Auburn, a game Maryland won and a game he also threw a touchdown pass in.
There’s no telling where he’ll end up going, but this could be one of the first set of dominoes as the season winds down. Teams are seeing their seasons dwindling, and players will always respond to that.
The college football world had plenty to say regarding this transfer.
Definitely sucks to see, He has an awesome arm and a ton of potential but with Billy playing the way he is and Malik on the way, you knew there was going to be some attrition in the room. Wishing the best of luck wherever he ends up @cameron_edge2 https://t.co/TwxoJDeGmC

Once a Terp, always a Terp!
Unsure of the reason for the midseason timing. The portal doesn’t open until the day after the College Football Playoff field and Bowl Games are announced, likely mid December.
But, wish Cam Edge nothing but the best moving forward. Young man has a… https://t.co/dm4JGnjO1G

It appears Cam Edge will enter the transfer portal.
Edge was one of the quarterbacks in competition for Maryland’s starting job this season, which Billy Edwards Jr. ultimately won.
Edge’s most significant playing time was in last year’s bowl game. https://t.co/dvfOAyGWOe
