The Miami Hurricanes had an impressive start to their season, winning 41-17 over their in-state rival, the Florida Gators, on Saturday.
Washington State Cougars transfer quarterback Cameron Ward was excellent in his Miami debut, going 260for-35 for 385 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, as Ward looked unbothered for most of the day despite the tough road environment in Ben Hill Griffith Stadium.
After the victory, Ward sent a message to the opposing fanbase, suggesting that they step up their game.
“I played at USC. USC wasn’t packed, but it was louder than this. I played in Oregon, it was louder than this. The Pac-12 gets misspoken for. Some advice to the fans: If you’re going to be loud, you have to be loud when we’re huddling. Can’t just be loud once we break the huddle. By that time, there’s no point. We hear the play. We communicated already. But it was a good atmosphere to play in. And I’m just excited now we were able to get a victory,” Ward said via ESPN.
Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal faces tremendous pressure in his third season at the helm after two lackluster campaigns to start his tenure in Coral Gables. With the Florida game in the team’s rearview mirror, they now settle into a nonconference slate featuring Florida A&M, Ball State, and South Florida.
