The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes improved to 5-0 Friday night with a 38-34 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in Miami.
The back-and-forth game came down to the wire, with the Hurricanes taking their first lead of the second half after a touchdown with 1:57 to play.
Virginia Tech drove down the field and wound up in range to throw a hail mary to the end zone on the game’s final play.
Quarterback Kyron Drones heaved the ball up from the Miami 30 and into a slew of bodies from both teams in the end zone.
First, it was ruled an interception for Miami, but the call was then changed to a touchdown awarded to Da’Quan Felton. The play then went to review.

After a lengthy replay review, the referees ruled it was an incomplete pass, and Miami won the game.

While the original call was too close to tell one way or another, the replay didn’t seem definitive in proving there was enough to overturn.
Social media had a lot to say about the replay review.
This is where I ultimately land: The call was the correct call, but the process was horrific, and I’m OK with ignoring the process to get the correct call.
Virginia Tech fans will feel differently, and have every right to.

For 15 years every single time a game has gone to replay we’ve heard the broadcaster issue a reminder. “They need clear, obvious evidence, irrefutable evidence to overturn.”
Zero chance they had that. ZERO. No shot. They looked at the replay for five minutes. Tells the story.

If it takes that long to review, it’s not conclusive and you can’t overturn it. But you know the ACC wants Miami to stay undefeated.

The play being called a touchdown on the field was the real robbery.
Never any clear control from anyone, both guys touching the ball while laying on the sideline, the Miami player was the one who came away with it right in front of the ref.
It being called a TD was ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/4FoR32VrKg
