The Michigan Wolverines earned a hard-fought victory over the USC Trojans last weekend. Their three-point win came thanks to the efforts of running back Kalel Mullings. The Michigan running back plunged into the end zone in the final minute of the game to give the Wolverines the victory. But that doesn’t mean everyone is so optimistic. You won’t find Urban Meyer in that camp.
The former Ohio State coach turned Fox analyst isn’t bullish on Michigan going forward. That is, if they keep this rushing attack their No. 1 priority. Balance is crucial, and without a consistent passing game, Meyer doesn’t think Michigan will progress any further this season.
“That’s a firm ‘no,'” he said on The Triple Option this week of Michigan’s chances, and whether they can contend going forward with a run-heavy attack.
“There’s zero chance with that kind of balance that they can do it,” Meyer emphatically said. He added he believes that Michigan should play both Orji and quarterback Davis Warren in order to succeed. He explained that playing coverage designed toward stopping the run will simply stop the Wolverines.
“There’s no chance. … I like how rugged the Wolverines were on offense and defense. And that’s kind of a trademark of who they are. But there is zero chance,” Meyer said again.
We’ll see Michigan in action again Saturday at Noon against longtime rival Minnesota.
