The Michigan Wolverines are out to a 3-1 start to the season. While the offense has struggled at times, the team’s record is what it is, and they willed their way to victory over Southern Cal this past weekend. Running back Kalel Mullings starred with a two-touchdown performance, including the game-winner with less than a minute remaining.
The Big House crowd cheered as Mullings plunged into the end zone. It capped off a huge day for the talented tailback out of Massachusetts. Many Michigan fans have pushed for Mullings to be the starting running back. He’s arguably outperformed Donovan Edwards, who may have the more well-known name, but hasn’t been the better player. The fanbase has seen it as a huge concern for the team that they haven’t realized this yet.
But Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore wasn’t so bullish on committing to Mullings as his starter.
“We’ll see,” Moore said of naming Mullings the starter via On3. “I think he earned the right to be in that conversation and talk about it and have those conversations with both of those guys, but those are things we’ll talk about with them.”
Moore said the Michigan running back played a “heck of a game” against the Trojans. Mullings rushed 17 times for 159 yards and those two scores. That apparently isn’t enough, though, to get commitment to get more carries.
All eyes will be on the Wolverines backfield this weekend versus Minnesota.
