Luther Burden III left Missouri’s game vs. UMass last Saturday. It doesn’t sound like the Tigers will be without their star receiver for long.
Burden is expected to suit up for Mizzou when they play the Auburn Tigers this Saturday. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the positive update for the Missouri star on Monday.
“Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III is expected to return to practice this week and play against Auburn,” Thamel said. He noted that Burden left the game with an “apparent shoulder injury.”

Burden’s loss didn’t lead to a loss for the Tigers fortunately. Mizzou defeated the Minutemen with relative ease. But it’s still been a pretty tough season in Columbia. While Mizzou has one loss, they haven’t looked the part of a previously Top 10-ranked team. They’ve looked skittish at times, which has caused frustration to run rampant in the fanbase.
That said, the Tigers can still close it out and shore things up. There’s still plenty of time to rally, especially in a wide-open SEC.
With Burden around, Mizzou will still have a puncher’s chance. This season, he has 31 receptions for 398 yards and four touchdowns. He’s been a prolific receiver for the Tigers since he arrived. He’s scored 19 touchdowns and accumulated nearly 2,000 receiving yards.
The 5-1 Tigers welcome the skittish Auburn Tigers to Columbia this Saturday. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze gave them and head coach Eli Drinkwitz a backhanded compliment on Monday, citing Missouri and its work with a “lesser roster.” Freeze has yet to deliver any success at Auburn and has lost to several teams that were less talented before. We’ll see if it winds up happening again. The battle of Tigers will commence at 11 a.m. local time out in Columbia on Saturday. Burden’s presence will likely make a major impact.
