Pitt Pittsburgh Panthers Bub Means (0) reacts after gaining the first down during the first half against the West Virginia Mountaineers at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, WV on September 16, 2023.

Pitt and West Virginia have one of the best rivalries in college sports. That rivalry amplified even more this week after Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi engaged in some light trolling.

West Virginia is struggling on the football field. Heading into this weekend, the Mountaineers are 3-3 on the year. In Neal Brown’s sixth season, ideally, you’d like to be in a better spot. But the Mountaineers have gone 6-7, 5-7, and 9-4 in the last three seasons. 2023 offered some hope, but they’ve already nearly matched the total number of losses they had last season already, and it’s mid-October.

Pitt, meanwhile, can’t say the same. The Panthers are 6-0 and nationally ranked at 20th. They’re 2-0 in ACC play and have built themselves a path to a potential 10-win season with few hurdles remaining. Among those six wins was a victory in this year’s Backyard Brawl, where Pitt won 38-34.

Following a recent Mountaineers loss, Brown came up with a response to encourage fans to continue attending the games.

“I get that they want to win. But what I would say is – did they have a good time? Did they enjoy it? It was a pretty good atmosphere. I’m assuming they had a pretty good time tailgating, so if they’re in the deal for enjoyment then I would come back. I looked at the weather and it’s going to be nice again,” Brown said.

Well, on Thursday, Narduzzi made a post on his account that appeared to reference that quote.

“Great work during our bye week practices Did we enjoy it? Nice weather?” Narduzzi wrote, checking off the boxes next to “Did we enjoy it?” and “Nice weather.”

Sometimes, it’s good for the soul to see this kind of trolling between sports rivals.
