The Nebraska Cornhuskers are on the up and up. Matt Rhule hopes to bring the Huskers back to national relevancy and prominence. He’ll certainly get there if his prized freshman quarterback pans out as many anticipate. Five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola has gotten a lot of attention since his commitment to Nebraska. Rhule hasn’t named his starting QB for 2024, but that doesn’t mean anyone thinks it isn’t a certainty.

Andy Staples hosted Husker Online insider Sean Callahan, who told the longtime college football reporter that while the head coach hasn’t tabbed anyone yet, it’s pretty clear where things are going.

“Rhule has not said it but it’s very obvious to anybody that’s around the program,” Callahan told Staples on his weekly show.

Nebraska has been trying to get back to prominence for several decades now. They won a split National Championship with Michigan in the 1997 season. In the BCS era, Nebraska made the 2001 National Championship, but the dominant Miami Hurricanes trounced Eric Crouch and the Huskers in the Rose Bowl. Since then, the Huskers have been a relative non-factor.

But with Raiola, Nebraska hopes to reach a level it hasn’t since the 1990s. Their fans are some of the most loyal and passionate in the country. They’ve been waiting for a winner, and fortunately, they might get their wish. But it will take a lot of things to go right in an ultra-competitive Big Ten Conference.
