Two critical pieces for the Oklahoma Sooners look good ahead of the 2024 edition of the Red River Rivalry.

This Saturday, Oklahoma and Texas will battle again. The annual tussle is one of college football’s most extravagant games, and it can also become one of its most intense. The OU-Texas rivalry is bitter, for sure.

Sooners head coach Brent Venables gave a positive update on two of their injured playmakers. Venables said he could expect Deion Burks and Taylor Tatum back on the field next weekend.

Tatum is a freshman running back for Oklahoma, while Burks plays out at wide receiver. Last season, Burks had 47 receptions for 629 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

This would be terrific news for the Sooners, who just scored a dramatic victory against Auburn. Michael Hawkins Jr. replaced Jackson Arnold, and he and the defense helped lead the Sooners to a win. The exciting Hawkins turned in a much-needed performance under center.

OU will need to throw the kitchen sink at Texas this season. The top-ranked Longhorns have looked sharp all season long. It doesn’t matter if it’s Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning under the center. Texas is humming. Oklahoma would love to spoil the party, but they must bring a lot of thunder.

The Sooners and Longhorns will do battle on October 12, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. Central.
