The Oregon State Beavers will begin a season unlike any other this weekend. The Beavers named their starting quarterback ahead of their new challenges, solving at least one issue.
Transfer Gevani McCoy won the starting job and will start for the Beavers in Week 1.
Nick Daschel, a longtime Oregon State reporter, emerged with the news on McCoy’s status this week.

McCoy joined the Beavers after three years under center with the Idaho Vandals. The Baldwin Hills, California, native has 5,859 career passing yards, 43 career passing touchdowns, and 19 career interceptions. He had a terrific 2022 season in which he threw for 2,735 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The Beavers hope that he replicates that kind of success with the team this year.
After the Pac-12’s dissolvement, Oregon State and Washington State were essentially left without a paddle. The two teams will go on their own this year with deals with the Mountain West Conference to preserve their schedule. Oregon State will also still play Oregon in their annual battle. It’s set to take place this year at Reser Stadium in Corvallis in what should be a thrilling environment, given all the bad blood and animosity between both sides after a very messy divorce this past summer.
