While most of the Big Ten teams have experienced strong, prosperous starts to the 2024 season, the Purdue Boilermakers aren’t one of them.

Saturday’s 28-10 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers dropped the Boilermakers to 1-3 on the season, their second straight year starting 1-3 or worse.

Purdue is one of three Big Ten teams to have lost three games this season, joining the lowly UCLA Bruins and Minnesota Golden Gophers.

On Sunday, Purdue made a change. The Athletic’s Chris Vannini reported that offensive coordinator Graham Harrell had been fired.

Harrell, who played quarterback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and was a 2008 first-team All-American, joined Purdue’s staff before the 2023 season along with new head coach Ryan Waters. Before going to Purdue, Harrell was the offensive coordinator for the West Virginia Mountaineers, USC Trojans, and North Texas Mean Green.

As Vannini notes, Purdue’s offense has struggled to score points this season. Their 21.8 points per game check-in in the lower quarter of college football, and their offense last season was also middling at best, scoring 23.9 a game.

Purdue will look to get its offense going when they return to action on October 5 against the Wisconsin Badgers.
