Quinn Ewers was forced to address his future with the Texas Longhorns on Monday afternoon, but he made his intentions very clear.
On Monday, the 247 Sports Instagram account made a post that said “Texas QB Quinn Ewers will sit out the rest of the season to prepare for the NFL Draft.” While the post was quickly deleted, it was up long enough for fans to see it and begin speculating.
ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel took to social media to shoot down the report as it began making the rounds.
“A report about Quinn Ewers leaving Texas for the NFL Draft is not true, per Ewers’ representative Ron Slavin. Ewers practiced today and is focused on Vanderbilt,” Thamel said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Following Thamel’s report, Ewers himself took to social media to address the claim.
In a post to his Instagram stories, Quinn Ewers shared a meme of former United States President Donald Trump with the text “Fake News” – clearly indicating that he planned to remain with the Longhorns.
During Saturday’s loss to the Georiga Bulldogs, Ewers was briefly replaced by backup quarterback Arch Manning before halftime as a result of his struggles in the first half. However, Ewers returned to the field for the Longhorns in the second half and finished the game, playing much better.
After the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made it clear that Ewers would remain the team’s starting quarterback going forward.
“Quinn’s our starting quarterback,” Sarkisian said according to ESPN. “I appreciate the fact that we’re fortunate enough to have a backup like Arch that can come into the game and provide a spark in some sense, but at the end of the day, Quinn’s our starter.”
Needless to say, Ewers clearly has no intention of leaving the team.
