The Rutgers Scarlet Knights lost an elite quarterback commit on Sunday night.
Head coach Greg Schiano may be feeling this one for a bit. Gavin Sidwar, a four-star quarterback in the Class of 2026, announced he’s decommitted from the program.
Sidwar announced the decision on X.
After careful consideration, I decided to decommit from Rutgers. I appreciate all the coaches and staff that recruited me – there are great people in that building. I think it’s best that I reopen my recruitment at this time. pic.twitter.com/1Z8nHtYx1Y

Rutgers has tried to climb back up the mountain in the world of college football. It’s been a steep hill, and at times they’ve shown competency. But, recruiting losses like these will no doubt hurt. While there’s no saying that he can’t re-commit, it’s likelier that he won’t if he decided to re-open it now. Especially with a long way to go until 2026.
Rutgers’ move to the Big Ten hasn’t worked out on the scoreboard quite yet. They have 44 wins since the move to the conference and even fewer against Big Ten opponents. And if the Scarlet Knights can’t get an elite quarterback to Piscataway, that wait and those struggles can and likely will continue.
