Ryan Day Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day prepares to take the field prior to the NCAA football game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.

The Ohio Sate Buckeyes are one of the best teams in the country. Second-ranked Ohio State has only one blemish entering the final leg of the season. That lone loss was to the top-ranked Oregon Ducks, and it was by just one point. Still, it was hard to find some optimism around the program ahead of that matchup. Head coach Ryan Day came under intense scrutiny, as he has the last few years, for coming up short. It appears that, after a startling reveal, Day and Ohio State were aware of the circumstances.

Day and the Buckeyes are on the heels of their biggest win of the season. Ohio State triumphed over Penn State in State College last weekend. The annual tussle between the Bucks and the Nittany Lions when OSU’s way again. While resentment and frustration was felt through Happy Valley, reassurance and sighs of relief presided over Columbus.

I think it’s fair to say for a lot of we were at crossroads, this was a big game for us. We didn’t really want to publicly say that,” Day explained via On3. But he revealed that they had discussed how big this game was and how big the moment was. Day exuded confidence and pride in his team for how they performed on Saturday against Penn State.

Ohio State is still bound to go to Indianapolis to play in the Big Ten Championship Game. But the Buckeyes have one major test ahead of them: Eighth-ranked Indiana awaits them in two weeks. The high-flying Hoosiers are enjoying maybe the best season in program history. Of course, Ohio State still has to deal with Michigan at the end of the season as well, but IU still could present issues.

Whatever the case, Ohio State knows the stakes. This much is certain.
