The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are off to a 4-2 start to the season, but after suffering back-to-back conference losses, the bad news has continued for Greg Schiano’s squad.
One week after losing 14-7 to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Rutgers returned home to take a 42-7 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers, in which running back Samuel Brown V left the game after suffering a lower-body injury.
On Wednesday, Schiano gave an update on the running back, saying that he would be done for the season.
#Rutgers running back Sam Brown is done fo the season, Rutgers’ Greg Schiano just said after practice. He suffered what was a lower-body injury late in the loss to Wisconsin.

Brown has primarily been used as a change of pace back to let starter and 2023 second-team All-Big Ten running back Kyle Monangai catch his breath. However, Brown excelled in limited action, gaining 201 yards on 40 carries this season. The junior running back also has three touchdowns, second-most of any Scarlet Knights running back or wide receiver besides Monangai.
Rutgers will now likely turn to freshman Antwan Raymond to replace Brown as Monagai’s backup for the rest of the season. Raymond has had 27 carries for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his first season with the Scarlet Knights.
