The Michigan Wolverines have had no shortage of woes on offense this season.

Sophomore Alex Orji was seemingly set to be the starter throughout camp and the preseason. But, when opening night rolled around, Michigan started Davis Warren instead. Once Warren fizzled out, the Wolverines turned to Orji. Once it became clear Orji couldn’t throw the ball, Michigan turned to seventh-year senior Jack Tuttle.

The results under Tuttle have been similar to those under Warren and Orji, as the three quarterbacks have combined to go 101-for-165 for 898 passing yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Michigan’s quarterback woes continued in their 21-7 loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini. Tuttle went 20-for-32 for 208 yards, a season-high for a Michigan quarterback this season, along with an interception, a lost fumble and zero touchdown passes. Tuttle was sacked five times.

After the game, head coach Sherrone Moore decried the team’s quarterback play, suggesting perhaps that he could turn to a fourth quarterback if things don’t improve.

“You can’t turn the ball over, and you don’t want to go to four quarterbacks. You don’t want to have to go through this process, but you got to take care of the football. We’re going to see what we got to do, and we’ll have that conversation as we go,” Moore said in his postgame press conference via On3.

Moore declined to answer on who would start next week’s game against the Michigan State Spartans.

“We’ll see how the week goes,” the first-year head coach said.
