The SMU Mustangs are making the most of their first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

SMU won its highly anticipated showdown with the Pittsburgh Panthers Saturday night by a 48-25 margin to improve to 5-0 in ACC play. The victory made the Mustangs the first team in college football history to go 5-0 in its first five games in a power conference. Additionally, the win put SMU past the previously undefeated Panthers for second place in the conference as the season’s final month gets underway.

Quarterback Kevin Jennings had an exceptional showing in the big win. Jennings went 17-for-25 for a season-high 306 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

After the game, head coach Rhett Lashlee sounded off on the major victory.

“Our program belongs at this level and our program is capable of competing at a high level at this level, which we all believe. We had to go do it. We’re not done and we’ve not accomplished anything yet, but we put ourselves in a position in the middle of November where we’re competing for a conference championship in the ACC in our first year in the league,” Lashlee said via ESPN.

SMU jumped seven spots in the AP Poll this week to rank No. 13 in the nation. They will be off this week before returning to action on November 16 when they host the Boston College Eagles.
