Arch Manning Texas Longhorns Arch Manning, 16, during the first fall football camp practice for the Texas Longhorns at Denius Fields on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

The Texas Longhorns returned to prominence in 2023. In their final season as a member, Texas won the Big 12 Conference and made the program’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff. While Texas fell to National Runner-Up Washington, the Longhorns are poised to do big things again in 2024. One piece to the puzzle everyone has their eyes on is Texas’ backup quarterback, Arch Manning.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian continues to dispel any doubt that they aren’t handling this situation well. This week, Sarkisian spoke about Manning and his progressions.

Sarkisian joined The Dan Patrick Show to discuss this upcoming season and the coveted backup.

“The one thing with Arch, and I really credit his family… I think they understand the process,” Sarkisian said. “We’re in this world now of instant gratification. Right? Whether it’s social media, or the five-star recruit comes in and starts right away. But if you really look back at the history of Eli and Peyton, they didn’t start their freshman year,” he explained.

“It took time as they developed. I think the one thing the Mannings understand is when it’s your time to play, they wanna play really well. Right? They don’t wanna be learning on the job. We’ve got a pretty good history and tradition of developing quarterbacks in the last twenty or so years, going all the way back to Carson Palmer and all the guys that we’ve coached. And we’ve seen an immense amount of development in Arch. We feel very comfortable, if and or when he gets in the game, he’s going to play good football for us.”

Texas opens the 2024 college football season against Colorado State on August 31.
