Tennessee A fan smokes a cigar near the end of a game between Tennessee and Alabama at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024.

The college football world pointed in the direction of a “scandal” emerging out of Knoxville.

The Tennessee Volunteers addressed allegations on Monday that the team pumped in fake crowd noise at Neyland Stadium. Following the Vols’ huge win over the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend, those allegations were floated around in the booth during the game.

X user Rob Harvey posted a video from inside the booth with Alabama commentators speculating that they pumped in crowd noise at Neyland.

“They also pipe in crowd noise, as well,” they said.

Then later, Tennessee athletic director Danny White later responded to those concerns with an emphatic statement.

“No, we don’t! Just 100K+ beautiful, booming, Big Orange voices,” White said in a post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

“Fake crowd noise” is one of those things that, when it’s found to be reality, is often very embarrassing. In this case, you wonder if some sour grapes were involved. But there’s no definitive proof that exists that Tennessee installs artificial sound inside Neyland Stadium.

It’s safe to say that this “scandal” may prove to be short-lived. For now, Tennessee and Alabama have their own concerns to worry about. The Vols scored an important win over the rival Crimson Tide this weekend, and it’s one that could send ‘Bama further down the chute.

The college football world reacted to the emphatic response to the allegations.
