Southeastern Conference play begins this weekend. In one matchup, the Texas A&M Aggies will play the Florida Gators. Both the Gators and Aggies roll into this game 1-1 after disappointing showings in Week 1.

The Florida quarterback situation remains a little murky. DJ Lagway stepped in for Graham Mertz in Week 2 and looked sharp. Lagway and Mertz present a unique task for Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko. The Aggies must prepare for two quarterbacks. Not just one.

Elko discussed his approach to this situation in Wednesday’s SEC teleconference.

“I don’t know that it’s a ton different. Obviously they both have skill sets and they’re going to accentuate the skill sets of each kid a little bit more,” Elko said via On3. “But I think you also got to remember that there’s 10 other kids on the team preparing. And so I don’t think you can go into it and prepare two different offenses.”

The Aggies and Gators are untraditional SEC foes, of course. A&M joined the SEC in 2012 along with Missouri as part of a conference realignment wave. In fact, Texas A&M’s first SEC game came against the Gators.

A&M and Florida will do battle at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday afternoon. It’s a pivotal game for both teams, but perhaps especially the Gators, who have been on the ropes lately.
