It sounds like Arch Manning may have started his final game for Texas. For now.
Quinn Ewers is on his way back to the lineup. The top-ranked Longhorns appear close to restoring order in the court. Ewers strained his oblique earlier in the season, giving way to Manning making his long-awaited college debut.
Manning has helped the Longhorns continue to hum along. They lost their No. 1 ranking without losing and then grabbed it back from Alabama following the Crimson TIde’s stunning defeat at the hands of Vanderbilt over the weekend. Texas remains as one of the nation’s unbeatens and one of the nation’s very best. Ewers looks to be ready to replace Manning as QB1 at Texas ahead of the 2024 edition of the Red River Rivalry, one of college football’s premier rivalries, for their annual game against Oklahoma.
ESPN said, “Coach Steve Sarkisian expects QB Quinn Ewers to be ready to start when No. 1 Texas plays No. 18 Oklahoma on Saturday in Dallas.”

Manning has played very well, but obviously, it’s time to move forward with Ewers. Ewers earned the starting job and has played well for the Longhorns. Not nearly bad enough to lose the job just because of Manning’s great play. The former Ohio State quarterback helped lead Texas to the College Football Playoff last season.
Manning will have to go back to waiting his turn while Texas hums toward the CFP again.
