Quinn Ewers is on his way back. The Texas Longhorns star is poised to be the top-ranked team in the nation’s starting quarterback this Saturday for the latest edition of the Red River Rivalry.

The Longhorns first appeared to allude to Ewers’ return to the lineup on Wednesday evening with a post that said hello to “QB1.”

And furthermore, Ewers was pictured.

Then, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Thursday that Ewers would return to the lineup.

And so ends the short-lived Arch Manning era in Austin. Manning did nothing to lose the job, but Ewers was always going to return back to the top of the depth chart. The accomplished Ewers, a former Ohio State transfer, helped lead Texas to the College Football Playoff last year. All told, prior to his oblique strain, Ewers was probably about to do the very same. And still could, all things considered.

Last season, Ewers threw for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 69 percent of his passes. Prior to the injury he suffered this season, the Longhorns quarterback completed 73.4 percent of his 79 pass attempts, threw for 691 yards, eight touchdowns, and only two interceptions.

Texas will renew its rivalry with Oklahoma down in Dallas this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. locla time.
