The NCAA will make a change to the transfer portal. On Tuesday, the organization announced that there will be fewer days in the window to enter the portal, hrinking down from 45 to 30.

NBC Sports and The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach noted the changes on X Tuesday afternoon.

“The NCAA Division I Council has voted to shorten the transfer portal windows for FBS football, FCS football and men’s basketball from 45 total days to 30 days,” Auerbach wrote.

Later, Auerbach provided additional context on the dates when football players can enter the transfer portal for this upcoming academic year.

The longtime college sports reporter also added the note that women’s basketball will undergo similar changes to men’s basketball, shortening the transfer portal window down to 30 days too.

Since its inception, the transfer portal has been one of the most frequently-used and discussed topics in college sports. Student-athletes can navigate and move throughout the world like they’ve never been able to before.

These changes to the portal appear expected in the ever-changing landscape of college sports. While these changes may satisfy some, others argued on Tuesday that the spring window also needs fixing.

Nevertheless, new rules are in order for one of the most active situations in college sports today.
