The West Virginia Mountaineers made a major announcement this week. Earlier this year, the iconic Jerry West passed away. The man known as The Logo died after a long life that became syonymous with the sport of basketball.

West attended WVU as a college student before he joined the NBA. So, in a showing of extreme gratitude and honor, West Virginia will wear patches on their jersey to celebrate and honor West’s life and contribution to basketball.

WVU will wear the patches on their jerseys this coming season. They will sport a commemorative logo on all of their athletics programs’ jerseys. All 18, as they noted.

“Beginning tonight and throughout the 2024-25 season, all 18 varsity sports teams will honor the legendary Jerry West with a commemorative logo on their uniforms,” the program announced on X.

At WVU, West earned Consensus All-American honors twice, won the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award in 1959, and had his number retired by the program. He was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

This is a tremendous honor and WVU is terrific for it.
