The Ohio State Buckeyes wrestling team will take the floor this weekend. Ohio State, ranked sixth in the nation, will battle UT-Chattanooga this Thursday. When the Buckeyes hit the mat, a superstar is set to make his return.

Sammy Sasso, a former four-time All-America, is poised to return to the wrestling mat. The Buckeyes announced the shocking news of Sasso’s return on Tuesday afternoon.

“No. 6 Ohio State opens dual competition Thursday at home vs. UT Chattanooga,” Ohio State Wrestling posted on X. “4-time All-American Sammy Sasso returns after more than a year away.”

Eleven Warriors helped explain what makes this news so shocking.

“Sasso’s return to form is a near-miracle, head coach Tom Ryan told Eleven Warriors in February,” they wrote. “The Nazareth, Pennsylvania, native sustained severe nerve damage in the shooting near Ohio State’s campus and required an emergency procedure to reconstruct his colon. He then underwent extensive physical therapy to learn how to walk again — let alone how to wrestle.”

The Buckeyes are one of the most well-rounded wrestling teams in the country. And having someone like Sasso back is huge for them to say the least. Expect his return to be celebrated in every way, especially with how unprecedented it appears.

Best of luck to Sasso in returning back to form.
