The Nebraska Cornhuskers are one win shy of qualifying for their first bowl game since 2016, and with three games against unranked teams awaiting them to close out the season, there’s a good chance they’ll make it happen.
Quarterback Dylan Raiola has had an up-and-down season, as is expected for any true freshman making their college debut. There was concern about Raiola missing time after a back injury he suffered in Nebraska’s loss to the UCLA Bruins last week, but head coach Matt Rhule said Monday that he doesn’t expect Raiola to miss time, after all.
Rhule stayed busy on Tuesday, as well. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Dana Holgorsen, who spent 13 seasons as a head coach at West Virginia and Houston, was joining Nebraska’s staff as an offensive consultant..

Holgorsen brings an impressive offensive track record to Nebraska. Before being named the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers after the 2010 season, the 53-year-old spent time as offensive coordinator at Texas Tech, Houston, and Oklahoma State. He’s worked with quarterbacks Graham Harrell, Case Keenum, Geno Smith, and others.
Holgorsen’s head coaching experience and winning ways also presumably plays a role in his inclusion on Nebraska’s staff. He went 61-41 in eight seasons with West Virginia before taking the Houston job and going 31-29 with the Cougars. In his 13 total seasons as head coach, Holgorsen made 10 bowl games.
Nebraska is currently on its second bye week of the year and will return to action on November 16 against the USC Trojans.
